Who runs HFI? Heal Forward Initiative is led by a small team of students based in Calgary, Alberta, supported by two teacher advisors who are active members of our team. We are youth-led and community-driven, operating entirely on a volunteer basis.
Where do you operate? We operate in downtown Calgary, where the need is most visible and most urgent.
What's in a survival kit? Our kits are designed to help people survive Calgary's harsh winters. Each kit typically includes essentials like warm socks, hand warmers, hygiene items, snacks, and other practical necessities for life on the street.
Who receives the kits? Kits are distributed directly to people experiencing homelessness in downtown Calgary — no applications, no criteria, no barriers.
How do you decide where to distribute? We go where the need is. Our outreach is done on the ground, in person, in the areas of downtown Calgary where people are most vulnerable.
